Amazing Game
Peri
This game might be a masterpiece. Aside from the beautiful artstyle and music, this game is incredibly rich with emotion and wonder told in a way that is incredibly creative and investing. Being the fifth game in the series, it is hard to recommend going in without any prior knowledge of the previous four games, but since this is the chronological first in the series to be officially translated I think that it is a fine compromise to play this game first. The setting, while building off of the third game in the series, intertwines with the setting from the second game to create an entirely new and unique place for the game to set it's story in. The concept of a ruined New York City that had already been subjected to a steampunk revitilization that the player could not see beforehand is juxtaposed against the Wonderland-esque "Underground" that the other half of the story takes place in. Alternating between the empty and gray ruins of New York and the colorful and outright bizarre Underground sets the perfect tone for the narrative. Aside from that, the author uses the setting along with all of this worldbuilding in order to facilitate an , admittedly, simple story. A story about memories, the pain of losing them, and the importance of remembering them. Every facet of this game is built around a singular theme, and every character in every chapter works towards building this single idea that the author is pushing. Tl;dr: this game is a masterpiece in storytelling, in a way that is wholly unique and creative, and I cannot recommend it enoughAs an aside, please support this game and it's sequel, Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning, in order for MG to localize the rest of the series!
