No last name, no clever nickname—just Chisato. She works as a demolitions expert in the mine, but her criminal record and which ward she’s in are a mystery.

Typically quiet due to her stutter, she tries to avoid other people’s attention in person, but enjoys massive popularity on paper in the poetry column of the prison newspaper. It’s while she’s penning one such poem that she first crosses paths with Shuichiro in the library.

“Reality always has a bitter ending.”

On the outside, she earned the nickname “Drone Girl” by secretly recording and selling videos of other people’s sex acts—in Tulip Prison, she’s just another prisoner in the Obscenity Ward with Shuichiro. She prefers to be alone and makes sure she’ll get to stay that way by driving people away with her sharp-tongued hostility.

It often seems like she has some kind of plan, and she’ll only cooperate with Shuichiro when she has something to gain.

“I do not like owing people favors. It would be no exaggeration to say I actually hate it.”

As a gangster’s daughter, she inherited her father’s role and became the chief officer of the yakuza organization known as the Hatae Clan. From her position in the Serious Crimes Ward, she serves as a “mediator” between the guards and the other prisoners.

Magnanimous and largely unflappable, she operates under a strict code of honor and always supports whoever is in the right. She’ll back up the protagonist only when justice is on his side.

“Why would a ‘good boy’ have a deputy warden on his ass, though, kid?”

A tall, beautiful, blonde-haired woman who serves as the deputy warden of the Obscenity Ward where the protagonist is imprisoned. She enforces order and expects absolute obedience of her charges—and reacts to insubordination without mercy.

Utterly convinced that her prisoners are the scum of society, she patrols the ward with dead-fish eyes, coming down like a thunderbolt at the slightest sign of disobedience and giving not an inch of quarter. Her nickname on the ward is “Sofurin.”

“Welcome to hell, you twisted souls. Welcome to Tulip Prison.”

The captain with the highest official position out of all three deputy wardens. Nicknamed the Queen Bee, she controls the Serious Crimes Ward and has a tight hold on practical power in the prison. Unfortunately, what she doesn’t have is any interest in reforming her charges: Her sole priority is expanding her fiefdom.

She is also a sadist who never hesitates to inflict torment where she can. Her favorite tool is electricity, and she is as feared by the corrections officers under her as by the prisoners themselves.

“You fell just one step short, boy.”

The second deputy warden in the hierarchy. She controls the Sex Crimes Ward, and the comparatively high number of prisoners under her stewardship makes her the only person with enough authority to argue with Captain Yugao. While less prone to scolding and punishment than the other deputy wardens, she’s impossible to read.

She is a zealot who believes in the rehabilitative power of religion and seems to exude a pious aura. Doing double duty as the prison’s chaplain, she is more commonly known as Sister Julia.

“And thus spoke the Lord: All with the sword of flesh will fall to the meatful sheath. Semenicus 45:19.”

A self-possessed woman who treats Shuichiro kindly and becomes the first person he opens up to.

She offers him generous advice on the best ways to survive in the prison’s harsh environment.
Her nickname is “Cultmaster.”
