I got into playing visual novels relatively recently, as a partial replacement for video games. VNs, to me, are a nice combo of story and game. Easy to pick up and put down. I like adult releases, but I've played some non-adult ones too (even some western VNs). For taste, I like vanilla. Almost nothing is *too* vanilla for me, as long as the dialogue is reasonably well-written. Princess Evangile showed up on my radar via VNDB. In my short time playing VNs, this is the leader in the clubhouse so far. The main protagonist, Masaya, is an all around likeable guy, which you would expect in a game like this. How the game makes him likeable, however, is very well executed, and while it can seem a bit much at times, it doesn't get too out of hand. The girls are all likeable as well, and seeing as how they're students of Vincennes, they share some common base traits. However, they each have their own flavor for the player to choose to pursue them. While they have some of the manga/anime tropes you'd expect, they go surprisingly deep over the course of the game. You will care about them, and you will remember them, and you will do so in spite of the rather common art style of the characters. It's funny how it happens. The supporting characters are very well done, and they absolutely shine during each character's route. You'll find yourself learning different things about them when playing different routes, and their purpose in the story will vary considerably. The main plot of integration of male students at Vincennes (with Masaya a trial balloon of sorts) works great in conjunction with Masaya's inevitable falling in love with one of the girls. Each route weaves around this basic premise perfectly. I will say though, that for a vanilla VN, there's some dark themes in the game. Mentioning some of them could spoil the story. However, as you can expect, these don't amount to anything that would affect this VN's vanilla status. They're just obstacles or plot for the player and/or the girls to overcome, and they all resolve without any consequence (and that includes to the reader). As you play the girl's different routes, you may begin to see what I think is the game's best attribute: environment. The game is set in the city of Tsurugigaoka, and Vincennes. There are many locations (depicted as ambient background CGs) that are visited - in some cases many times - throughout the common chapters and the various routes. Quite simply, they're beautiful. They become familiar, and some take many forms, both in time of day, season, and situation. I just found myself becoming progressively attached to the whole world. I never imagined I would, but it just ended up happening. There's just a charm to it. Pretty, functional, but not overly stylized. Corny thing to say, but it all feels like home. I recommend the All Ages version if you're not interested in the H stuff. The game is good on its own. The H-art is OK. It's in the modern, deformed style. Just once, I'd like to see a more realistic rendering in H-art, but oh well. No big deal. And now I get to this game's biggest flaw. It ends. There's a lot to play here, but once you've experienced everything (and maybe even replay something), the way the game can attach itself to you over time can make it sad to let it go. I recommend Princess Evangile WHappiness to go along with this, which will ironically extend the happiness of plaything Evangile longer. Eventually though, all good things must come to an end. You'll never see the character's smiling faces again. You'll never experience any more stories with them. You'll never experience life at Vincennes, or visit Tsurugigaoka again. It's over, and you'll be wondering (like I am) if there's another VN out there as good or better. And maybe there is. I'm sure there's some super deep, well constructed VN, but it contains unspeakable horrors, suicide, gore, rape, and even bad puns. But in a vanilla genre? I can only hope there's something out there that can compete, because I already miss playing this game.

A good slice of life romance with a little bit of drama to keep each route interesting. Beautiful art, 4 likable heroines, and an interesting cast of side characters to go alongside them.

a little cheesy at times but a good story with 4 endings

This is my favorite anime V.N. No rape no hatred of women just a love story with drama and comedy and a mystery all of which hold your interest. It is romantic and heroic (with fan service) but the story is what you will remember. Some of the girls are strong some are more traditional but all the characters are likable. The M.C. is a good guy and not an idiot so that was a plus.

If you enjoy school/romance visual novels you won't be disappointed. That being the genre I probably read the most of, I find this novel to be quite enjoyable. The story is good (if not a bit "cheesy" at times) and it should bring out a range of emotions if VNs get you in that kind of way.

My only real gripe is how the choices work. It's easy to mess up the first time, but after that you've got the formula down and there's no experimentation.

There is a lot of content here, so even at full price you're getting a good bang for your buck, especially when compared to other mediums. If you have a job the price probably shouldn't be an issue.

On a larger scale this would probably end up closer to a low 9 or high 8, but as it stands on here a 5 will suffice.

Overall it was a great experience, compelling characters with a engaging story-line. However there were a few flaws that were, irritating.
For starters I disliked how you are constantly given decisions, which still have only a single path, making the whole thing disengaging at times. Also the voice of Kitamikado Ayaka sounded distorted or of lower quality at times.
But none of these are particularly deal breakers and overall it was an enjoyable experience.
A tad pricey but I'd say that it's worth it.

I found myself getting a lot more emotionally invested in this VN than I thought I would. the effort in to establishing the supporting cast is good, The heroines are cute of course, the protagonist was decently likable, but... I disliked how "On Rails" it is. I don't have a lot of experience with VN's in general, but this felt very non-interactive (Though I've only read F/SN and Katawa Shoujo so maybe I just started on an extreme?). As far as I can tell there's only one decision that actually matters over the course of the game, and it's basically "Which route do you want"?

I'm happy with the purchase over all, but even though I got it on sale for ~$33 I still feel like I overpaid. Think long and hard before buying because this VN is pricey. That said, it's a good trip.

While the settting might sound a bit overused, each of the routes are actually well developed. The devs seem to have picked to let you chose the route you wanna take pretty easily by just staying true to the character you wanna follow but each story has its value and its difficult to say that which one go the top spot.

Given the development of some of the "support" characters one would expect more routes but I guess thats what fandisks are for.

The VN is well writen and thought out and won't disappoint anyone with time to kill.

Surprising emotional depth. Some of the situations are pretty outlandish in terms of likelihood/overblown tragedy (you know, there's always some kind of contrived misfortune) but everything is treated actually pretty nicely. You actually come to like and understand some of the characters, even the ones with more obviously annoying faults. Plus each route reveals more and more about the backstory such that you'd have to play all of them in order to get the full idea of what happened.

Only complaints? Fewer routes than I thought there would be, given the number of interesting/developed characters. The plot also doesn't exactly diverge given the player's choices, which has pros and cons.

That being said, this may be the best written visual novel I've ever gone through. Definitely recommend.

Would have been worth the price without H-Scenes. Sure there is some cliche and tropes as well as some overlong dialogue but Very Emotional Vis Novel with close to realist innocent dating. You'll want to complete the Story Arcs/ Read Through non-stop since you'll get sucked in. As in, I want to know what happens next/ I cant put down this book. I'm a sucker for Happy Endings. I would love to see more of the characters and more stories from this all girls school. Such as the first class of boys.

there are a lot of reviews here judging it intellectually. i wanted to post about the emotional side of this. it started out as a cliche high school VN but the routes are very realistic. no thin plot to connect eroge scenes. i had butterflies and was on cloud nine as if i was the character several times. being a person who has never been in a relationship and such due to a strict family life. this made me feel things that no VN 2D game should. its pathetic but it also made me realize how amazing a VN can be. it was immersive and the best VN i have played to date. sure it has its cliches and tropes. but behind it all is the most realistic presentation of dating and sex i ever seen in a VN. the first time wasnt all over hyped. it was nerve wracking. both characters were nervous and in my favorite route they end up sitting on the bed just kissing for a while. its a lot more realistic and immersive. im pathetic.lol but its one of the most amazing VN's i have ever played.

To me, this VN was below its expectations. It is a great VN of course, however if fails to live up to its name.

The story it self is quite amazing despite it sharing the same idea with a few (or a lot) other VNs of boy(s) going to a previously all girls school. The back stories of each character including your POV interlocks really well with each other once you get in to the story. The story it self more often comedic than not, which is really a good point if you're looking for a laugh. Through the story, there are dramatic events spread all over which sets the mood really fast and well; used to build relationship between every heroine. The ero parts of this VN is quite amusing as well, however people do tend to get out of character during those times, saying things that would normally be impossible no matter what situation they're in. The art and the angles they take are better out of the VNs and up to around the 2nd sex scene (later for some) of each character, they tend to build story really well, while those after are sometimes just completely random.

There are two main flaws in this VN as my opinion. The first is the lack of creative choices and the number of choices. There are I think total of four choices to make, and they're clear as day as of which character you'll be going after. To many people that might be a good thing, but for me as someone who likes interactions in VNs, it get's quite boring and takes the fun of VNs from me. If you do not choose the same character all four times, it goes in to a bad end that isn't specifically made as a bad end, instead it just ends on the common route of the character you last choose. Feels as if they just got lazy.

Second flaw is that all the characters in the common route are given almost equal amounts of attention and are all possible targets for the protagonist. However they chose to only include four people in the actual character routes. Later on they released a fan disc that includes the other characters and the after stories of the four in the original story, however I think that's highly unnecessary if they just put them in to one game which would increase the number of choices and maybe make it more interactive and potentially better than just four choices they have now. (That being said, waiting to the Princess Evangile W/ Happiness right now, really wanna see the other routes.)

One of the main problems is that common route is way too lengthy. Starting from the first choice which is already half way if not further in to the common route, it takes around 30+ minutes to skip and select till the character specific routes are reached (if I remember correctly). Another small flaw is that Ayaka's voice sounds really out of place comparing to the other heroines, but it doesn't really disturb game play.

TLDR:

Pros: Great story, Great atmosphere, Art and music, emotionally capturing.

Cons: Lack of routes, bad interaction, lengthy common route, occasionally random events. (When skipping from a save file, the game MAY crash after a little, so remember to save once in a while when skipping.)

Overall it's a great game, can't wait for the release of W/Happiness!

It's not one of the best visual novels, however, it was worth the money in my opinion. The game is sort of predictable and the game didn't really have any memorable music or story. The story in my opinion quite similar in every route. Also, the game feels like it lacks any complexity in my opinion. The heroines were very *simple*, though of not bad. So it's a decent game. I will probably replay it at a quite much later point in the future.

The game was worth every penny I paid for and still playing after going through the whole game and all the routes. Ayaka would be my favorite route. Hope that Mangagamers will translate the second part W Happiness to keep the franchise up and continue with the story. It may take a long time to complete each route but worth it every time.

Enjoyed every route in this VN. It feels a little slow at first but once you reach ch16 and choose your heroine the story really takes off. After playing every route my favorite has been Ritsuko.

The Visual Novel is above average with some technical flaws and story plot flaws.
Technical flaws I noticed was the unsmooth animation in the opening scene of the menu as well as the ending credits. Also once you get to the H scenes you will notice background noise of the girl moaning over lapping with her breathing and talking making it seem like you are having a 3P or 4P rather than just 2P. However these technical issues should not bother you if you simply play for the story mostly.

Here comes the flaw with the story without spoilers. I speak only of Ritsuko's route personally due to only having played that route so far. I believe some plot points were never expanded on even through the 10+ hour game play, and some characters were never given a real chance to redeem themselves with the player due to no backstory or explanations.

But overall in the end Princess Evangile can be considered a light hearted love story plenty of comedy and fun. Definitely a great buy for those who would want to try this VN. Not sure if it should be recommended for light readers though due to the length.

Read through one of the routes in 3 days, spending almost all my free time on it. MY only gripe would be that there's only four routes to take.

If you're looking for a heartwarming love-comedy then Princess Evangeline got you covered. It's a really simple VN but that holds a lot of charm, fun moments and heartwarming characters.
The passing of the story follows similar to an anime series, with 16 episodes for the common route and 10 more for each of the four heroines.
Just don't expect too much deep, everything is really simplistic just like a love-comedy anime, but the characters and overall charm holds up. Speacially during the heroines routes.

Pros: Heroines and characters, Pretty nice art, funny scenes, episodic style, nice H-scenes with choices, free steam version.

Cons: Bland soundtrack, have to view the same events to reach a new route, Ruriko doesn't have a route (She is one of the best girls!)

As my title states I enjoyed all 4 routes more than I though I would.

After the first half which was pretty much the same across routes, you'll find yourself truly getting to see the details that make up each characters personality. All of which are quite different and give the game a decent amount of replayability.

As stated in a couple other reviews, there are a few missed opportunities with other girls in the story that would have made for interesting routes in and of themselves. That said I still feel 5 stars is well earned.

This is the second VN I've ever played so far, and the first that I bought from this site. For anyone who's into a story driven plot along with the hentai that goes along with it, then I think this will be a good choice for you to buy as a newcomer in the VN/eroge otaku community.

The development was great, both in story and characters, artwork's great, and the music's nice too. I've played through all the routes, and I like Ayaka's and Ritsuko's the most.

For those wondering, there is a fandisk "Princess Evangile W Happiness" that includes the Ruriko, Mitsuki, Marika, Tamie, and Natsumi routes. Unfortunately, it hasn't been translated and adapted to the US yet, but I certainly hope this will be a future project for Manga Gamer to do, as it also apparently includes epilogues of the four main girls that take place later in the future.

In summary, this was a well thought out game, I'd like to see more from Moonstone (saw one about interacting with 5 little sisters, not sure I'm really into that), and I'll keep on the lookout for more interesting games from the site. Thanks for the work guys.

It is hard to describe such a good game with few words, but this game i think had really moved me in many ways. The story is fun, the routes are great, and the artwork amazing and you can see the effort, the voice acting outstanding, the music.... I could listen to it for hours!!!

Though i must say my favorite two routes had to be, Ayaka and Ritsuko ^^

The story is very fluent and you don't feel they force anything, but i would like a bit more choices, but that is a minor complaint. This game could have easy just been naughty here and naughty there, but i felt like it took it's time and when the naughty stuff did come it wasn't forced or anything, it was something that progressed along the girl you have chosen witch i think was very good.

I have heard there are six endings, but i am not sure if that is true or not, i am currently searching for them myself, but so far no luck, but at any rate great game, worth your time and the money!

As the title says, I think it is very clear I loved chiho route and declare it to be my fav route. The game is amazing and definitely a very long lasting game with a good story. Though it is unfortunate tamie, mitsuki, and konomi did not have a route in this game. Still is a amazing game and recommend it for all who want a good vn with a good story with satisfying routes and endings.

Finished Princess Evangile today and man I really enjoyed it! Story were really were put together really well. The artwork were also brilliant. Definitely a must buy game! Hope MG gets more games from Moonstone in the near future =)

Princess Evangile was the first Visual Novel from the Adult Visual Novels developer Moonstone, and published by MangaGamer to step in on Steam, and it did so with stunning fashion. The game goes trough a whole year of the life of the main protagonist in detail, with over 26 chapters in total and loads of CG to cover every aspect from his daily life.

The story follows Okonogi Masaya, a broke boy who's father abandoned him and left a huge debt over to his son, who after a rather curious chain of events manages to enroll as the Only male student in an private all girls academy. However not everyone is happy with him being there, and if he doesn't win the whole student body's aproval by the end of the year, his dream school life will come to and end, and its back to the street for him.

Starting the game we meet with Rousenin Rise, a student in Vincennes academy who was being chased by what turns out to be the Gardiane the school security of the academy in question. The game offers you the option to chose between helping her or just ignoring her and leaving,
both of which however end up with the same outcome. The game opens up after we save our princess like a hero in a shining armor, and she offers to treat us to a meal as a gesture of gratitude. Following her hearing of his story, and him rescuing her from her chasers and later on the Rufians she offers him go join Vincennes academy as a part of a plan for Reforming the school into Co-ed .

Gameplay wise the game is solid, it has the standard auto mode, letting you just lay back and enjoy the story, only having to do something once a event occurs, which is not a bad thing for a visual novel (VN). There is also a full Japanease audio for all of the girls, and side characters combined with a well fitting soundtrack . The game also tends to use alot of French words for naming stuff, but there is the option to click on them and get a detailed explanation for the meaning.

Played all routes, all were great, every girl is amazing. Honestly hard to tell which one was best! If you look for some nice romance stories, look no longer.

The only cons I can think of is the fact that music sometimes can feel a bit questionable. And when the H-scenes finally happen there's a lot of them in a short time, wish they were a little more spread out, though I have to admit, it makes sense story wise. Still, I don't feel like it's even worth it to drop a star because of this.

Easy recommendation!

I am surprised at the number of positive reviews. If I did not know any better, I would claim to be playing a different game. Another reviewer said it best "I can not (in good conscience) suggest this game". He then proceeded to give it 4 stars. Maybe there is some kind of star filter on Manga-gamer, but thus far it has not liked my reviews of this game. Maybe they are too honest?

First, lets start of with my major gripe: Price for content. I do not mind playing vanilla feel good games. That said, I expect more content for the price I paid for this game. I would strongly suggest waiting until the price came down to at least twenty dollars. I have thought about asking for my money back, but I do not think that would work in a digital age.

Second, the plot is only slightly less predictable than the movement of the stars. Sure, an occasional meteor shower may surprise you, but we've gotten it down pretty well over the past few millennia. That is about how predictable the plot is.

Third, I use games to escape reality. If I wanted to deal with , I can find those by myself. The lack of realism, lack of escapism, lack of anything really makes this visual novel a massive waste of money.

The only silver lining (and the reason it has only one star) is that the characters and animation are well drawn. My last gripe about this game though is that it crashes and is incredibly buggy. This should not be an issue on a CPU that runs 3D thermodynamic modelling software for engines. Also, this is the only game I bought from Manga gamer that was ludicrously buggy. So I would strongly suggest saving your money rather than playing this game.

I agree, its a fantastic artwort, music and storyline.
BUT: what I personally would like: There are a few "choices" at the beginning of the game (should i help her, should i undress) which doesn't matter. I was a little bit dissapointed.
AND: You have only four girls to choose from. I liked Marika and Mitsuki, so I was abit sad,that you can't choose them as romance options. Also Masayas "sister" is quiet an interessting character.

BUT: Everything other, as said at the beginning, is fantastic, so, if you want to spend money: THIS VISUAL NOVEL IS WORTH IT!

This is my first time writing a review but I definitely recommend this game to anyone interested in a great visual novel. The characters and art are all great in my opinion. I loved the humor at certain points and the drama at other places. My one complaint was that I wish there were more than 4 routes to play because I really liked the side characters as well. I would have loved to see routes for Ruriko, Tamie, Konomi, Mitsuki and Marika too. Maybe they are on the fan disk that hasn't been localized. I can only hope Manga Gamer releases it as well. The routes that are there I think I would have to pick Ritsuko as my favorite. I really look forward to playing more from Moon Stone and Manga Gamer

Princess Evangile is a visual novel (VN) which on the surface looks like one of those vanilla romance VN. Don't get me wrong, it is a vanilla VN throughout but that is the point: to make you "feel good" in the end. It certainly had made me so after completing it.

In Princess Evangile, you spent a lot of time on character interactions. While the VN is not heavy in plot, it focuses on character development. This is one of the VN strongest points as I feel the relationship between the protagonist and heroine is given enough time to gradually build over time and it is not rushed. It gives the reader a sense of attachment to the characters. This is even more so once you start getting into the individual routes.

The supporting characters are very interesting too and it really made me wish they were in the limelight too since the VN does a good job in making me wish they had actual routes.

And with any romance VN, there are almost always H-scenes in them and Princess Evangile does an alright job delivering them. They do not feel forced or out of place in general. There are a good amount of H-scenes but they are not excessive. It is just right, I feel. The H-scenes can be quite warming too sometimes.

The art in Princess Evangile was enjoyable and I really like the character designs. The music in the VN was pleasant, though sometimes I felt it could have be done a bit better to suit the mood. But I'm just nitpicking here. I still enjoyed it overall.

In summary, Princess Evangile is a fun game if you like character-driven visual novels. Though there is a little heavy drama in some instances, it is still a light-hearted and fun visual novel. I recommend giving it a try. In the meantime, I will be praying that this fan disc will one day be localized. Ruriko really deserves a route of her own!

It is a great game. The routes are very touching. The "main route" lasts for a long time but when it starts branching its very clear. I hope that the fan disc gets translated.

It has been a LONG time since I have been emotionally effected by a piece of art. I was with it at every turn. Happy when joyous moments occurred, panicked at the unexpected turns cropped up. So far I have only gone down Ritsuko's arc and intend to experience the others.

This visual novel is truly Amazing,

my intention for buying it was primary not the story, but the lovely drawn characters and the "fan service". But as I started playing, I realized that there is a really, really good story in this "game" with many twists and turns. There is also a lot of drama mentioned and you will get background knownledge of nearly all characters, too. The voices are all cute and well recorded. I'm not a English native speaker but the dialogues were so easy but diverse formulated that you can understand all very well. I'm currently at the half of the visual novel and all I've seen until now the all-ages version should be nearly the same (until now :) )

I'm sorry for all written mistakes that appeared in this review, but this visual novel needs to be more known, yet I'm looking forward to the H-Scenes :)

Not going to write out some long review but I personally enjoyed this Visual Novel. Lasted a long time[Still not done playing it] and it really does a good job of...Well keeping me there. Like I don't want to stop because I can't wait for the next thing to happen. I just want to keep playing. Any who it was a nice game and I think people should buy it.

Okay, so I was truly looking forward to this VN. I'm a giant sucker for potential harems. But I was disappointed in the amount of time it took to pick a route (I had to check multiple times to make sure I didn't buy the "all-ages" version on accident)
Like, 4 hours in I finally get confronted with an actual choice... another 4 hours later I finally got to my chosen route.
There are only 4 routes as far as I can tell (which is odd considering the amount of ladies in the story.)
The sex scenes on my chosen route were pretty tepid.
That said, I never felt like I wasn't having fun and was entertained throughout.
All things considered, I can not (in good conscience) suggest this game to fellow eros.
Note: I rate games based on enjoyment quality and time spent countered by the game's cost.

Pretty awesome title thats well worth the money. The only bad thing I have to say about it is Ruriko and Tamie were two hugely missed opportunities that should have had their own routes as part of the main game rather than be released as part of a fandisk.

Done every route very easy to select whichever route you want no need for a walkthrough, choices are not too early into the game so you are given enough time to make your mind up.

I've never played a moonstone game before this one, but it's definitely got me wanting to try more of their titles. the Chibified characters are so adorable, and the story (so far I've only completed two routes) has its ups and downs (not in quality, mind you) i found myself cheering and holding back tears within minutes of each other. the art has this almost flowery feel to it but it fits the setting. I definitely recommend this title, whether its be the all-ages version or the adult version.

Amongst the Eroge I've played, few catch me like Princess Evangile has. The MC is competent, caring, hardworking and honest and it's not a surprise these girls fall for him. A breath of fresh air in the overly hetare and super donkan protags that Eroge has an abundance of. That’s not to say the protag isn’t indecisive at times but he’s aware of it and with his background, it’s relatable and he tries to correct it

The Routes
In almost every Eroge, there are normally one or two routes that I just can’t stand, for whatever reason, whether it be poor writing, bad character interaction etc. In this, all the girl’s routes are enjoyable (though my personal favorite, hands down is Ritsuko with Chiho a close second). There is drama in each route and a lot of it is parental in nature. Given the nature of Vincennes, that makes a lot of sense to have that be the dramatic focus. The drama, while there, is not overpowering and is resolved nicely (IMO). The H-Scenes were believable as well, showing actual relationship growth leading up to the decision to move to intimacy. To often, these scenes are just thrown in

I definitely recommend Princess Evangile, which again is strange for me because I believe every person needs to make their own decision. If you like Character Driven story with comedy, romance, a little drama, this game is for you. After I take a break, I’ll be jumping back in to play Ritsuko’s route once again (What can I say, she’s my favorite!!)
